Planning & consenting process

We have submitted our planning application for Elterwater Quarry to the Lake District National Park Authority with the aim of securing consent to change the use of the site through the addition of educational and heritage-focused activities.

The next stage will be the announcement of the authority’s decision on whether this development can advance.

In support of our application, we have undertaken a series of assessments as part of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) process. We have also prepared a series of impact management plans, including sustainable transport, environment and access studies. These have identified potential impacts associated with our proposals and suggest appropriate mitigation measures.

As this process progresses, we will continue to seek and reflect on the advice and opinions of stakeholders, residents and visitors to the area.

Stakeholder engagement

Along with work to develop our planning application, we are also liaising with key local groups and authorities to seek feedback on our proposals and to inform our plans. These organisations include:

  • Lake District National Park Authority
  • South Lakeland District Council
  • Cumbria County Council
  • Lakes Parish Council
  • Skelwith Parish Council
  • Friends of the Lake District
  • Cumbria Tourism
  • Cumbria Geoconservation
  • Natural England
  • Local businesses and neighbours to the site
